Sambisari, Ijo, Mantup, Plembutan, Barong, Sari, and Kalasan Temple are few of many temples located in Yogyakarta. The features of each temple shows the historical background of its own. Some with Hinduism cultural background, and some with the Buddhism background.

Kalasan, Barong, Ijo, and Sambisari are the temples near to the phenomenal Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta. Different from other temples which located in high land, one of the temple, Sambisari is located on 6.5m under ground. Sambisari Temple was built in the 10th AD century ( 812 -838 AD). This is supported by the gold plate inscription found there. Sambisari temple was found unintentionally in 1966 by a farmer while cultivating the land. Sambisari consist of a main temple and three pervara temples, which has Lingga-Yoni inside the chamber and Durga, Ganesha Agastya Statues outside the chamber. It can be seen that the religious background of Sambisari Temple is Hinduism.

The excavation and restoration held by the Indonesian government bring a great contribution for Indonesian and for the world to show the cultural heritage that must be protected and preserved by all.
